Apr 05, · Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here () So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you. It's as sweet as pie, with a tad bit of heat for the spice. I loved the whole aspect that Grace used when it came to both the main characters being single parents. I loved how Mona and Joaquin were complete opposites, and I mean complete opposites. Sugar & Spice was a /5(84).

Hargrave has the unique writing ablity to not only share the main characters story but also the secondary ones as well. Lacey's father, Candy and Trent's mom all have their own piece of the story too. The only thing I wish I could change about this book was I wish it was longer. It was a great quick read.
I highly recommend it. I loved this story for the sweet, simpleness of the love story. A great starter book for an amazing new author. Nov 14, M. I love the simplicity to this story. I was captivated almost immediately by the story that not only made me smile, but also made me hungry thanks to my sweet tooth!
I can't wait to read more by her! Aug 24, Kristina Sanchez rated it liked it. It was Hallmark movie channel level. Exactly what it was supposed to be. Almost zero drama. Everything works out. Everything is blissful. No one is particularly realistic. Feel good, sugary stuff. Feb 13, Richelle Robinson rated it liked it.
The story had a cute premise but it was a little too insta love for me. I figured the main character Lacey would move slower especially after being burned and left to be a single mother. I also didn't feel the connection with the main characters.
I wish we had more time to get to know them and more character development. Even though they moved way too fast for my liking there were cute moments in the story.
If you like quick, sweet, second chance Wish You Were Here - Mȳa* - Sugar & Spice: The Perfect Edition love romances this is a good book for you. I The story had a cute premise but it was a little too insta love for me. I listened to the audio version and the narrator did a good job with the story.
Feb 07, Jara Beaubien rated it it was amazing Shelves: review. This has been the nicest and sweetest story I had the privilege to listen to. It had everything romance that grew from the first meeting until the end. Yes it did have sex, but the kind that is alluded to and not fully described, its the one you have to use your imagination.
Lacey Harrison is a single mom. But with her father's help and that of the residents at Royal Hills Nursing Home, she thrives grows and becomes successful in the business she chose. And what would a story be without a handsome This has been the nicest and sweetest story I had the privilege to listen to.
And what would a story be without a handsome man. When Trent Childress moves into town and adds some spice to her sugar? Its a beautiful loving story with its own twist and plots making it easy to listen to and to enjoy the story.
Oct 02, Tori Tee rated it it was amazing Shelves: lilylovesindie. The first thing I really need to comment on is the fact that this story is so very completely believable. You could really imagine seeing this take place in any small town in any place around the world. It's full of the natural beauty of humanity at it's best, full of reality, and above all full of balance of the good times, and This review has been carried out as part of an Author Feature Week over on Lily Loves Indie - www.
It's full of the natural beauty of humanity at it's best, full of reality, and above all full of balance of the good times, and the bad times. There's no fluffy coating on love here either, Hargrave tells it like it is. It's harsh at times, but at other times it's really just true beauty, and that shines through the whole book. There's no guarantee of a happily ever after, just like in life, and this is something that really endears Dark Love - Various - All The Pretty Little Mutants (Greek Dark Underground Vol.
2) to this book as it really is something you could hear from a friend, family member or even experience yourself. To me, that shows great skill in the writing and is simply exquisite in the execution of this skill.

Trent Childress has just moved to town to take care of his mother after the death of his father. His mother resides up at Royal Hills Nursing Home and has always mentioned Lacey and her wonderful baking. When Trent ends up teaching Candace gym at school, everyone's lives are about to become intertwined. Can Lacey and Trent put aside their pasts and learn to rely on each other?
Will Candace get her special Christmas wish? I really enjoyed this book and love all of the characters in it. There were such special relationships in the book that I truly loved and how everyone supported each other, and the school. It was definitely a community that I would love to live in myself! The book spans almost a year yet it doesn't feel rushed or that you missed a lot.
Dec 08, Cynthia Ogg rated it it was amazing. I launched into this one immediately after finishing The Food Critic by R. This book had more the relationship that I wanted from The Food Critic. It was a longer read and I was definitely more invested in this story. I finished this one immediately after applying date night makeup and I regretted it! Applying the makeup that is!
Lacey and Trent are adorable and sweet and move at such a beautiful pace. Throw in that fun tween Candy and it's a delightful mess! That was a moment I was sooo looking forward to. Hargrave did an absolutely fantastic job handling the emotions and responsibilities of a single mom.
Cheers to Lacey for persevering and creating her own thriving business. Hargrave wrote an absolutely beautiful story that really is Sugar and Spice. LOVE this author! Oct 09, N. Wood rated it it was amazing. Hargrave is a wonderful short story about not just Good Shepherd - Jefferson Airplane - 2400 Fulton Street - The CD Collection finding of true love, but the completing of a family.
Set around the theme of baking, it tells the story of Lacey and Trent literally bumping into each other and taking their relationship from there, helped along by Lacey's daughter, Candice. Hargrave has a way of telling stories so that not only the main characters win a place in your heart, but the secondary characters do too.
Their own story is discreetly placed in the pages, such as Candice becoming a young lady, Kelly - Del Shannon - Runaway Hits Lacey's father finding his own love, as well as Trent's mother finding some recovery from her own age-related ailments. Mar 30, Missy Harton rated it it was amazing. I was gifted this book for an honest review. Such a heart warming story!!
The possibility that a happy life can truly be acquired!! This is the first work of R E Hargrave that I have had the pleasure to read. I will be seeking out more of her creations!
Great story that is a rather quick read!! This is one of the best things Knob Creek has done in the last few years, and there are quite a few great drinks on that list. The limited edition version of Craigellachie 23 is a classic iteration of the rare Craigellachie malt, if there ever was one. On the palate, the sulfur persists, backed by a lush sweetness that recalls buttered cornbread.
Interestingly, that buttered cornbread turns darker on the finish, where it takes on more of a slightly burnt popcorn note, followed by hints of cooked pineapple and baking spices.
The outcome was a total and unmitigated success. Weller Full Proof is loaded with buttered caramel popcorn on the nose. On the palate, it goes straight to classic Weller territory, but delivers a ton of texture, with rich sugars and sweetness before a soft, velvety wheat finish.
Knappogue took a small risk finishing some of its whiskey in the oft-overlooked marsala cask, which can sometimes land flat, and oftentimes can be overshadowed by more typical port and sherry finishing options. That risk paid off in spades with this youthful new whiskey. The year Marco di Bartoli is fudgy and fruity, showing vanilla cream and a dry final persona that ties everything together perfectly at the finish.
Use sparingly for delicious highballs, or drink neat. The huge cask flavor adds syrupy, oily sherry notes to the typically peaty and bright whisky. It makes for a final whiskey that checks all of the boxes in perfect balance—at a price where stocking up is recommended, if not demanded.
The cocktail-ready rye is the most affordable bottle on this list, and makes a mean Manhattan, but its bold-and-bright character makes it an ideal sipping companion as well, showing glimpses of chocolate, cherry, and citrus through the spice. This is one of the best new bar staples to come out of Kentucky this year, full stop.
Start with the elegant and beautiful Double Double a year-old blend that has seen a multitude of casks. For all its maturing, it proves surprisingly bold, rich, and spicy, with mounds of butterscotch and bourbon character, as well as baked apples and a lovely, slightly dry finish. The double finish on this Irish single malt lends fruit cake and raisin bread to a modest nose. On the palate, this is a focused dessert powerhouse, balancing rich malt character with fig and honey, and dark chocolate ganache, all before a refreshingly light finish of dry grapefruit zest.

Deb, I generally make my own applesauce from Rome apples. Would you recommend pureeing it first? If it is all chunks, of course, I might puree it a little. Spice futzing optional.
We are die-hard fans of Penzeys because of their quality and price — not to mention that we have lived close to their stores for several years. Friends and family raved about it. Our latest habit has been their Arizona Dreaming, a salt-free seasoning that we use quite frequently.
I had all the ingredients in and a day off, so I made this tonight! This is definitely in the top tier of the list! Thank you not only for the recipe, but for the link to Penzeys! I am at my first year at college right now and missing New York so much. Your post had me missing everything I love about my home—the leaf-carpeted sidewalks slick with recent rain, the crispness of the air, the sight of small children in bulky backpacks filled with freshly sharpened crayola colored pencils.
Also my oven, and my spice cupboard, and the Union Square farmers market, and everything else necessary to truly make this cake. Al these deliciously applely things have got me SO inspired!! Thanks for sharing I should bike over there and grab some of the vietnamese cinnamon and also replace some other things in the kitchen. Thank you so much for the Do Ahead little section at the end.
It is so nice to know how to store and how long the things will last. This cake looks lovely. I will have to try this apple cake out as well…loving the fall as well. I am making these tonight! I grew up on an apple orchard in VA and 2 weekends ago my sister got married. My mom and granny made apple sauce for the reception and I have quarts of delicious homemade applesauce in my freezer. I never made hers, but this sounds like the same spices.
Last time I bought the Chinese, I think. The black pepper I bought is so strong, you have to be careful. Much fresher and stronger than an Indian market! So, of course as soon as this was posted I ran right out to the grocery store to grab the ingredients. I have a quick question…. My store had Saigon which is what I purchasedbut not the other. I just finished making and freezing about 15 cups of apple pie Ready Set Go - Livingston Taylor - Mans Best Friend which is already sweetened.
Could I use that in place of the applesauce and cut back on the brown sugar? The filling is made with brown sugar. If you could draw a comparison, that would be great! I was just thinking about making an apple dessert and this looks perfect! I have a bunch of apples left over from orchard picking.

I substituted two tbs. No other substitutions. The house smells sooo good! Not good! Well, ok, very good — fantastic, actually. And when it arrives I will make applesauce cake. This just may be Hold Din Kæft - H19ng Winther* - Udsigt Til Indsigt. I am curious as to why it also seems that everyone takes their cake out of the pan?
I have always left mine right in the pan it was baked in. What a wonderful dish. My thing might be fitness; but I have a soft spot for certain dessert dishes! Excellent Post! What a great looking dessert. What are your thoughts on a layer of sliced apples in this cake? It looks so light and moist! Will it hold up to this addition? How about baking some apple slices just like the ones in the apple cheddar scones! I knew I had to make this immediately after seeing the recipe.
I made them as cupcakes last night and they were a HUGE hit at the office today! Definitely a go-to recipe for fall! This takes me back as this was one of the first cakes I ever made and I can almost taste it from your great picture.
One of those comforting desserts. Quick question for you: your baked goods always seem to appear evenly cooked and legitimately golden brown like they should be. Ours is a oven with gas range on top.
I know this is probably an odd question, but any recommendation Shriner Cows (Dial.) - Stan Rogers - Home In Halifax be great.

It seems to have a similar heat-bouncing effect. Possibly including toasted hazelnuts chopped up in there as well instead of the walnuts. I love Dutch apple cake as well but the chunks of apple have a tendency to sink and leave the bottom of the cake a little soggy. This looks lush. Dear Deb, I am feeling especially smitten this week. I made Chicken with Forty Cloves of Garlic the other night and it was heavenly.
I also made Winter Squash Soup, and it was a perfect complement to the start of 6 straight months of rain that the PacNW will be dumping on me.
My boyfriend ate it for dessert and then again for breakfast. Even my roommate, who has a phobia of cooked fruit, was in love. Thanks for reminding me why I still love fall despite all that rain! Cheers, Cupcakes. This cake came together like a dream and was utterly blissful smelling while in the oven!
Thanks for the post, Deb! One of the grocery stores I go to has a really great bulk spice section. Do you have any suggestions for a substitute frosting that 666 - Various - Can You Scream! be yummy?? Just pulled mine out of the oven. It smells amazing…and the batter was pretty delicious too.
Thanks, Deb! I made this cake today without the icing and its vanished already! Thank you so much! Made this last night and liked it very much. I found all the flavors not intense enough though, so will increase them all next time. And is there any way of making the cream cheese frosting a little thicker and not so sweet? Both proved to be a HUGE success in the house with the kiddos. Coffeecake was a success. Thank you! This is just what I needed. It is unbelievable, as is the dutch cocoa.

I read this recipe Monday, and just had to bake it. My cooked fruit-phobia husband adored it. Thanks for a great fall cake that I think has just become his new go-to birthday cake. Cut it into squares, packed it up in Tupperware and brought six pieces to work…I ate one at work and the flavor was not only better but the spices had intensified. My husband is going to be thrilled when he comes home tonight to find this.
Spice cake is his favorite. I iwll try to make this…sound really good!! Do you think I can use the same recipe with pumpkin sauce intead of applesauce?? Just asking :. I used to live in the city! Cooking with apples is fantastic this time of year.
Well done :. Great recipe- super moist, and I love the spices! Yet another Smitten Kitchen recipe I will most certaintly come back to. Can you explain the adaptation s?
Their recipe works almost perfectly as originally written. That said, I tweaked a bunch of things. I noted how curdly the batter will look, because it freaked me out.
I suggested a parchment paper lining because I used a nonstick pan and it almost stuck. I reduced the baking time because both times I made this, it was done at 35 minutes, not the 40 to 45 that were suggested. I also converted the measurements to grams and ounces, and added a bunch of headnotes like how long the cake should keep, how you can make your own applesauce or pear sauce and how to use a more intense cinnamon.
Hope that helps. Yes, that does help. Thank you. No problem. I never know how much detail to go into about changes, without sounding excessively OCD. On a good recipe. On a bad one, I nearly throw it out before writing you a better one. New York has definitely redeemed itself after an awful summer. I think I need to seek out the Vietnamese cinnamon you described.
I made this cake yesterday. Thanks Deb for a keeper. Can you substitute a vegetable oil for the butter in the cake? I made your applesauce for the first time as well and fell in love with my first taste of homemade sauce. I also cooked it in a well greased 8X8 glass pan and served it in the pan to no ill-affect since the family practically devoured it in one sitting.
To put a little more volume into it, just leave it in the fridge for a bit and give it another whip before you frost. I get the mail-order catalog…but a store! That sounds dreamy! I made a cake almost exactly like this last night — Instead of the applesauce it had pumpkin, though. I would think a person could swap applesauce for pumpkin in this recipe come Halloween night for a nice baked treat!
I made this cake last night in a loaf pan and it sank in the middle after taking it out of the oven. Any suggestions to prevent this from happening again? Apple Sauce Cake is always my request for my birthday cake. It is absolutely my favorite cake : Thanks for this recipe variation!
I made this cake yesterday for my birthday. Anyway, the cake was utterly delicious. Deb, thanks for this recipe that made a perfect birthday even more perfect er. Thanks for this recipe Deb! My 4 yr old son announced the other night that today was party day at his preschool and could I please make something yummy to eat for it. The cinnamon in the frosting is genius. I made it. The cake is to die for. Hi Deb! I made this with just a few changes: Wish You Were Here - Mȳa* - Sugar & Spice: The Perfect Edition the cinnamon and ginger, used dark brown sugar instead of the light, and used rosemary brown butter applesauce in place of straight applesauce.
Deb, thank you for this! I needed cupcakes, but I am not usually a frosting fan. I added some allspice and nutmeg to the cake batter, and jacked the Vietnamese cinnamon a smidge. The flavor was sublime. Not overly sweet, perfectly creamy and light, and it pairs perfectly with the apple-spice flavors in the cake.
I made this today with some applesauce I made earlier in the week. I added a little maple syrup to the frosting in place of some of the sugar. It was fabulous!! I was taking dinner to a friend and shared half with her. A big hit with grown-ups and little people, alike. Thanks for another great recipe.
I left out the cloves and upped the cinnamon. Instead of cream cheese frosting, I plan to give it a glaze made with powdered sugar and milk. For the walnuts, which I love, but my husband dislikes because of their texture, I have a trick. After putting them in a baggie, I gently pound them with a mallet until they are well-flattened. Then I add them to the flour mixture and give it a whisk. Lots of flavor without the chunks. Hi Thank you for adding the alternative weights to your recipes. I am an American living in Europe so although I do have my American measuring cups and spoons for my American recipes, I found using my kitchen digital scale for weighing ingredients more accurate and also UK and European recipes are in ounces and grams.
With that said, I made your cake this morning. The 2cups of flour that you have as gms, weighed in at gms on my scale, and at The rest worked out fine. I think this is one of those cakes you can modify endlessly without managing to destroy it. I was wondering if you could suggest how much to cut down the brown sugar in this recipe.
I have a gorgeous homemade applesauce I purchased at a local orchard, but it is sweetened. I am curious to try this with vegan ingredients shortening, egg replacer, soy cream cheese for my son, who has severe dairy and egg allergies. I just made this and it is unbelievably delish!
So good. Thank you for the wonderful recipes. Thanks for this Deb. I made this last night and it turned out spectacularly! My applesauce was pretty heavily spiced already cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, dash of cayenneso I Wish You Were Here - Mȳa* - Sugar & Spice: The Perfect Edition all but a pinch of cloves. I literally had some people on the way over to help me make cheddar apple scones when you posted this new recipe we had just gone apple picking the day before.
I have to say that the scones were my favorite, but everyone else preferred the cake…it was gone in 24 hours. Amazing amazing amazing. One of the best Wish You Were Here - Mȳa* - Sugar & Spice: The Perfect Edition I have ever made. This coming from someone that believes all desserts should contain chocolate. I did not change a single thing — it was perfect. I am still eating the leftover applesauce, which is also delicious.
I am already trying to come up with a reason to Hustlers & Hardcore - Domingo - Behind The Doors Of The 13th Floor it again, and I still have half the cake left.
I made them into cupcakes and they are amazing. The only change I had to make was to use a gluten free flour mixture as I recently found out I have celiac disease. Thanks for the great, as always, recipe!
