Dec 27,  · Every song on the excellent 2-LP live all acoustic album “Reckoning” is good, so any of the songs on it translate well: Dire Wolf. The Race Is On. It Must Have Been The Roses. Dark Hollow. China Doll. Been All Around This World. Monkey And The Engineer. There is no room left. Here, we are lost to the music. We are gone. And the sound wall continues to roar. This one passage delivers the goods so completely, it starts to make sense why people would religiously follow the band from show to show for decades.

You come out on the other side wondering, what just happened? Into Not Fade Away we go. More blistering work from Garcia.

Garcia is cartwheeling now, flinging plumes of fiery light into space. From here we move into Midnight Hour - only one of five known versions in Under a lazy Pigpen rap, the band begins to take things in other directions.

Jerry finds his way into extremely pastoral spaces with his solo, juxtaposed against the strut of the music nicely. His solo is soon crooning and swooning, headed toward some The Race Is On - Grateful Dead* - Playin Acoustic plane. The band gets it, and we become utterly lost again. Deep within this spectacular passage we hear the smallest hint The Race Is On - Grateful Dead* - Playin Acoustic Bobby teasing back to China Cat.

Before we fully confirm in our head that we just heard it, Jerry certainly did, and the band gives the theme full treatment before landing back in Midnight Hour on the back of some Garcia volume knob work. Baby Blue one of just three known versions in is wickedly cut short on the AUD tape due, undoubtedly, to a lack of blank tape after such a long evening.

This tape is pure gold. We are blessed completely in our opportunity to hear it, and the window into Grateful Dead it provides for our ears. Posted by icepetal at AM 12 comments Links to this post.

The Race Is On - Grateful Dead* - Playin Acoustic into a kaleidoscope of color. Pass through That Lady - The Isley Brothers - Greatest Hits membrane.

Be the membrane. There never was a membrane. You're back at a Grateful Dead show. When they did it well, it was all about the evaporation of everything that grounded you to the here and now, yet allowed The Race Is On - Grateful Dead* - Playin Acoustic to slip all the way into the here and now just the same. The Dead's musical muse simply was. It didn't evolve so much as slowly turn, ever-present in the light. A telltale sign that the band was coaxing the muse out came with the strong impression that you were no longer hearing music being played right now.

More often, the muse simply sounded like the Grateful Dead, echoing backward and forward, un-tethered to "today. Played init stands at the center of the Dead's 30 year career. This is too coincidental a reason, I know, but the show is indeed packed with muse-infused moments. Yet, there are several highlights that bear mentioning — so many, that I'm quite sure I will overlook a few.

Sugaree plays on and on, Garcia speeding and swirling effortlessly. The band is locked in with him, everyone adding fuel to the fire. It's a healthy, long version, typical of the time period. Feel Like A Stranger is sublime. The jam is tossed into a heavy syncopation after Bobby missteps a "silky silky silky crazy night" line. It's impossible to tell who in the band slips with him, and who stays in the prescribed beat count of the song.

But the result is an extremely extended jam that fires flares off in roller coaster streaming arcs for what feels like an eternity. The phrasing is filled with the standard Stranger themes, but it is peppered with so much more. When they somehow manage to pull together for the final refrain, it's like be shaken from an epic dream. After just sort of reappearing in rotation at the start of after a 4 year hiatusthe song duo had taken on a more upbeat tempo, and by it was a pure carnival of light and sound.

A wonderfully glowing solo section cascades into an I Know You Rider which finds Jerry's tone crisp and clean. He rounds corners and rolls over hills, spraying notes to the horizon. The last solo catches the light of the sun and soars like a bird. Super excited for our first 79 release for this series.

Same thoughts on the cassette as others have, definitely some concern, but am hoping for the best! Glasser has always produced high quality work. We are in for a mega box, DL did say Norman was Hail Caesar - AC/DC - Gold Collection busy working on the box to work on this release. I will have the same marriage concerns as others. I guess August 1 will be the day!

Great show! Wish it was the show before which was Stanley Theater which was a smoker. Hey peeps, you know that if the box is from an era that's my sweet spot, I'll buy the refrigerator-sized The Good Touch - ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ - Zombie Rave 12 Summer Splash box!

Don't get me wrong. I just didn't think Dave was talking of shows as the criterion for greatness. I'm buying anything in the '66 to '74 range no questions asked, no matter the price. I mean, seriously! Any other eras, I take a real hard look before humping it. Back to product page.

Amen to the artwork and burying the skeletons pun intended. Excellent I've always really enjoyed the Road Trips from a similar timeframe and this will be a great addition to those two releases.

This date -- just down the… This date -- down the road a ways in Cincinnati that night, eleven died at Riverfront Coliseum just before the Who show. Box Set Dave eluded that they have been working on it since last December and several months of the audio elements.

Take a listen and decide. I have been wondering what show it was The Race Is On - Grateful Dead* - Playin Acoustic Absolutely awesome. If you read the notes for these files, it was a mystery to this day. Well, SherlockRider just solved one of the mysteries. Now, where is this Heaven Help the Fool from?

As far as these Warfield acoustic sets go, if you don't own Dead Reckoning you had better get it. Reviewer: capn doubledose - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - February 25, Subject: Nice This is a nice little snippet and will be thoroughly enjoyed.

Reviewer: The Bopper - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - October 9, Subject: lay me down At the end of To Lay me down, Bob trys to sing the chorus one more time while Jerry is ending the song. I wonder if they were trying to be that perfect or just get a good track laid down for Reckoning? And of course a smokin Cassidy follows after the tiff. This is a good one. The acoustic set is about as close to the Grateful Dead’s back porch as we are going to get. Relaxed, and with no expectations (save for a good deal of complaints over getting the monitors to work properly), the set displays a tremendous intimacy. There is a fragile honesty to the proceedings, without a hint of pretension anywhere.

Reckoning is a live double album by the Grateful Dead. It consists of acoustic material recorded live in September and October Some of the tracks are shortened versions of the live performances. The material recorded in was originally intended for release on one double LP set, but the format of the music subsequently steered the Grateful Dead towards the release of two double albums, Reckoning and Dead Set. Apr 15,  · Two complete acoustic sets from Warfield shows in October , celebrating the Grateful Dead's 15th Anniversary. A perfect blending of older cuts from Dead's extensive repertoire, these two sets include such classics as Dire Wolf, Cassidy, Bird Song, Monkey and the Engineer, and To Lay Me Down, amongst many others, with each set ending with Ripple/5(15).

On Race is on and Wake up L. Suzie both Bob and Jerry are playing acoustic with Jerry refraining from any lead work. Most likely Nelson playing the electric there. On New Speedway it's obviously Jerry back on electric and Nelson moved to acoustic as I can hear the 2nd acoustic in the right channel. 1. Aug 17,  · However, this CD can show you a more beautiful side to the sound of the Grateful Dead than perhaps any other CD. There are so many beautiful moments on this CD that it will linger in your head far after it has finished playing. If you are a fan of the Dead /5(96).
  2. Grateful Dead Nightfall of Diamonds () Rating: ***** In the fall of the Dead were playing their best shows in a decade. This one, Bob's 42nd birthday, is probably the highlight of the entire tour. The smoking Picasso Moon>Half Step>Stranger promises a lot for set 1 and that is what you get.
